Maintenance/Laborer Position
This position is an important part of Southwest Wildlife due to the need to provide a safe and comfortable environment for animals, staff, volunteers and guests.
This is a full-time exempt position paying $16 per hour and requires working a schedule of Tuesday through Saturday.
About Southwest Wildlife Conservation Center:
Southwest Wildlife rescues and rehabilitates wildlife that has been injured, displaced, and orphaned. Once rehabilitated, they are returned to the wild. Sanctuary is provided to animals that cannot be released back to the wild. Our mission is to save our wildlife, one life at a time.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintenance of animal enclosures and public walkways which includes general cleaning, landscape planting and trimming, clearing shift gates, and removing and repairing hazardous conditions such as loose guardrails, broken wire mesh, excess digging at enclosure perimeters, etc. Assists keepers with various projects as in installing platforms, nest boxes and other animal needs. Loading and unloading of large quantities to and from trucks. Maintenance of evaporative coolers. Basic carpentry and plumbing skills are desired, as well as the ability to work with metal and concrete.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Must be bilingual in English and Spanish
Must have a valid AZ driver’s license and reliable transportation
Physical requirements:
Must be in good health and able to walk on uneven surfaces, climb low fencing, bend, twist, and stretch
Must be able to lift and carry at least 50 pounds
Must be able to stand on feet for long periods of time
Must be able to work in all types of weather conditions including dust, heat, and storms
Requires contact with wild and domestic animals, including animal dander, blood/excrement, and hair
Employees will encounter pests—insects, snakes and rodents
