About Us - Who We Are

Southwest Wildlife is a non profit organization that has rehabilitated thousands of sick, injured, orphaned, displaced, and abandoned wild animals.  Over 70 percent have been successfully released back into the wild.

For those animals that cannot be released, Southwest Wildlife offers a home for life in our accredited wildlife sanctuary, the largest sanctuary for animals native to the southwest in the United States.   Southwest Wildlife is the only sanctuary in Arizona capable of caring for large mammals such as black bears, mountain lions, and Mexican gray wolves.  As an accredited sanctuary, Southwest Wildlife must operate under strict and rigorous guidelines with respect to animal management and care.

Southwest Wildlife is also a vital partner in one of the most important wildlife efforts of our time—the recovery of the endangered Mexican gray wolf and its return to the wild. We have been a holding facility for the Mexican Gray Wolf Recovery Program since 1995.

Southwest Wildlife also emphasizes wildlife education, offering a variety of engaging educational programs for area schools and organizations.  We recognize that looking into the eyes of a living and breathing animal will teach respect, understanding, and compassion for all living beings and inspire young minds to learn more.  In addition, Southwest Wildlife provides veterinary interns from around the world the opportunity to practice wildlife medicine.

Southwest Wildlife actively works with many private, community, and government organizations in resolving wildlife situations, caring for endangered species, and in planning the releases of rehabilitated animals.  However, we receive no federal or state funding for our operations.  Southwest Wildlife subsists entirely on donations and grants to provide the medical care, housing, feeding, and daily care of the wildlife at our facility.
